Then we determined where to put a seam, and dam up to that seam
with water based clay, putting "keys" or indentations into the clay to
insure that the mold aligns correctly when assembled. Then several layers
of gel coat resin are applied directly to the plastilene, and in turn covered
with a quarter inch layer of fiberglas. Then, when then fiberglas has set,
the whole piece is flipped over and the clay dams removed, the plastilene
touched up as necessary. Then the piece is lubricated and the process repeated
to complete the other half of the mold. this is called a shell mold, it's
too rigid for many uses but it is great for flexible pieces that can be
stretched or compressed to dismold them. To see the finished spider kill
